BIOGRAPHY

 

Scott Benefield received his B.A. in East Asian Studies from the College of William and Mary in 1978. Following a year spent as a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Sweden, he earned an MFA in glass from Ohio State University in 1990. In 1992 he was a founding partner of Studio Inferno in New Orleans. He moved to Washington state in 1997 and started Isola Glass on Camano Island, which produces a production line of contemporary functional vessels. He also exhibits unique works at Vetri International Glass in Seattle.

 

 


Benefield is a past president of the Glass Art Society and served as the editor of their bimonthly newsletter for six years, where he continues to contribute articles on a variety of topics. He was awarded a Fellowship at the Creative Glass Center of America in 2001 and an artist-in-residency at North Lands Creative Glass in 2004. He has taught workshops at Appalachian Center for Crafts, the National Center for Art and Design (Dublin) and the Pilchuck Glass School.
